Santa Monica Studio se ha desviado de la mitología nórdica conocida cuando ha sido necesario para contar su propia historia, al menos, en lo referente a Tyr, según ha contado el actor de doblaje que pone voz al dios nórdico de la guerra y el orden en God of War: Ragnarok, Ben Prendergast. En una entrevista con el youtuber Jon Ford, especializado en la serie protagonizada por Kratos, el también actor de Fuse en Apex Legends dice que Tyr "tiene un viaje diferente al que es famoso en la sabiduría popular nórdica".
"Hay mucho conocimiento tradicional que encaja en el juego, pero Santa Monica Studio se aleja de ello cuando quieren para intentar mantener la historia que están construyendo", dice Prendergast en las declaraciones recogidas por GamingBolt. "Así que Tyr tiene un viaje diferente al que es relativamente conocido en el acervo popular. [Fue] muy divertido, fue muy divertido encontrarlo".
En el gameplay de God of War: Ragnarök mostrado en septiembre de 2021 se cuenta cómo Kratos y Atreus están escondidos en el bosque tras los acontecimientos de God of War. A pesar de que el joven quiere descubrir quién es realmente, Kratos está receloso de salir a la aventura porque la búsqueda de respuestas puede significar enfrentarse a los dioses.
Parece que una de las primeras cosas que hará el dúo será buscar a Tyr, que algunos creen muerto, pero realmente está encarcelado. "No quiero desvelar demasiado, pero cuando encontramos a Tyr por primera vez, ha pasado por algunas cosas", dice Prendergast. Según el actor, los jugadores se encontrarán a Tyr "roto" figurativamente.
